Not so this six-part RTÉ lyric fm series, co-hosted by broadcaster and ecologist Anja Murray and Ye Vagabonds musician Brían Mac Gloinn. Rather than lament our losses, the pair celebrate the lives and roles of Ireland’s native trees by meeting those who conserve them, from bat experts to archaeologists.
As Murray explains, “this series is an homage to trees, each episode brings together ecology, history, music and song, to create a portrait of each tree”, namely birch, hazel, holly, willow, ash and oak, with Mac Gloinn composing odes to each and every one. Pat down your PJs, savour that morning coffee and enjoy.
BROWSING Lodestars Anthology Ireland
Pent-up demand for overseas holidays is in full swing and while there’s nothing more glorious than flicking through a beautifully crafted travel magazine for inspiration, we’re intrigued to see Lodestars’ homage to Ireland, released this month.
Each issue is dedicated to a different country and contains around 20 stories centred on food, culture and nature. The Ireland issue promises to be very much about people and connections, with featured destinations including Adare Manor, Cnoc Suain, Inis Meáin Restaurant and Suites, The Black Castle, Fernwood Farm, Finn Lough and Haddington House.

That said… who wouldn’t fantasise about a mini-break to Porto? With two new weekly direct flight routes from Shannon launching on March 26, adding to the seven weekly flights from Dublin, Portugal’s increasingly cool hotspot is tempting indeed.

SIPPING Craft Cocktails Green Street Sour Limited Edition
St Patrick’s Day may already be a distant, perhaps hazy, memory but the green wave continues with Craft Cocktails’ Green St Sour, created by Ivana Marešić of Dublin’s BAR 1661 and back my popular demand. Two parts strong, one part sweet, and one part sour, its blend of Cocalero botanical spirit, melon, aloe vera, and citrus is simply lip smacking.
Still, if the idea of drinking something pond-coloured is a turn-off, there are many other brews to try, from Mezcal Margaritas to Whiskey Sours to Pornstar Martinis to Aviations, expertly mixed and delivered to your front door.
